Industrial-strength physics-based battery models
BPX is an open standard that provides a common definition of physics-based battery models that can be used widely across industry. BPX makes it easier for manufacturers and developers of all sizes to leverage the insight of physics-based models across a broad range of scenarios. The standard aims to reduce fragmentation and support interoperability and data exchange, increasing trust and reducing costs and time to streamline the overall battery model supply chain.

The BPX standard is built on the success of the Faraday Institution’s Multi-scale Modelling project, which aims to create accurate battery models to extend the lifetime and performance of battery packs. The project represents a £23m investment over seven years, led by Imperial College London with their six academic and 17 industry partners.

All battery modellers are invited to request additional features to be included in the BPX standard via discussions boards on GitHub.
The BPX Steering Group comprises experienced battery modellers from a wide range of leading companies and research institutions. It advises the Faraday Institution on strategy for the future evolution of the BPX standard including which requests to include in future versions to drive the standard forward.
